April 2009
This has been a trying season for the hospitality industry given the deep economic crisis which has impacted almost everyone in the world to some degree.
The Meridian Club has not escaped unscathed, but we have been more fortunate than most of our competitors, thanks largely to our loyal repeat guests who clearly realize what a special place we have here. We are very proud of our 55% guest return rate; almost unheard of in this era of multiple resort options to choose from.
The headlong competition over the past decade to build bigger, glitzier resorts on every available piece of beachfront property in the Caribbean has only served to underscore the value of our secluded, peaceful, safe little island where nature is celebrated and preserved, not bulldozed for infinity pools and more hotel rooms.
This isn't to suggest that we don't offer comfort, great service and elegant cuisine, or that you can't enjoy a multitude of activities here if you wish. Please check out some of the news items and photos below.
The Meridian Club was recently named one of the 12 Best Private-Island Resorts in the World by ISLANDS Magazine. (see below) Those of you who haven't been to The Meridian Club yet just might want to see why it is that we have such a high return rate. Come ahead, we dare you. We wager you'll become one of our "regulars". The odds are in our favor.
We look forward to sharing this lovely island with you.
Warm regards,
Bev and Wally Plachta

Milestones Henry ("Brother Mac") McIntosh, long time Meridian Club Maintenance Department employee and a Church Deacon on North Caicos, turns 80 on April 14th.
He looks, and works, like he's 30 years younger. He's a great source of wisdom and inspiration for younger employees. |

| Still Glowing
Good news in the glow worm front. As some guests who visited earlier this season know, the September hurricanes apparently affected the glow worm habitat adversely and most of the displays were significantly below par. However, guests on our latest outing on March 16th witnessed one of the most spectacular displays we've ever seen, so it appears that Mother Nature has remedied the problem.
Future trips will take place April 14, May 14, June 12, July 12 for those of you who wish to tailor your visit accordingly.

Islands Magazine
ISLANDS researched more than 100 private islands and among the top twelve are Star Island in the Bahamas, Peter Island in the British Virgin Islands, and islands in Tahiti, Fiji, off the coast of Australia and more.
Editor Chris Tauber interviewed us to find out exactly what makes The Meridian Club on Pine Cay so delightful. Click here to read the article for yourself.
You also can pick up a copy of the April/May 2009 issue of ISLANDS Magazine which is on newsstands now.
We sincerely do hope you visit us this year to see all the improvements that have been made to the hotel. But even with all our recent upgrades, when you stay on Pine Cay you will experience the "Old" Caribbean.
You don't have to travel far to escape it all and truly relax. As you plan your dream escape, keep in mind that Pine Cay is very accessible from the US East Coast - only about a 90-minute flight from Miami.

| The Culinary Front We were very fortunate to add a highly skilled husband and wife team to our kitchen staff this season. Executive Chef Bill Allen and Pastry Chef Amy Caffarel came here from Vermont. Bill is a former instructor at the New England Culinary Institute and Amy is a graduate of the same school.
Mouths have been watering ever since they arrived.

Fishing
Outstanding at times. Bonefishing has been excellent most of the season and there have been some very good deep sea catches that have supplied fresh fish for Chef Bill to work his magic with.
