FISHING at PINE CAY

Pine Cay is not a true fishing destination, although some Meridian Club guests do come primarily for that purpose. Unlike dedicated fishing camps, we don’t have the number of boats and guides necessary to accommodate large groups of fishermen who wish to fish every day. However, fishing around Pine Cay is excellent and can be a wonderful diversion for a fisherman with a non-fishing spouse or for couples who wish to spend some time trying their luck while on their vacation.

BONEFISHING:

The ultimate shallow water challenge. Those who have never caught a bonefish before will be amazed at the strength of these fish. We offer half and full day charters with an experienced guide in a state of the art flats skiff. You may fish from the boat or wade, depending upon preference, tide and location. Fly and spin fishing tackle available.

The Caicos Bank, adjacent to Pine Cay, is a vast shallow expanse with many wadeable flats, some only a five minute boat ride from our dock.

Our guide is himself a knowledgeable fly-fisherman and has spent his entire adult life fishing and exploring the Caicos Bank. He can almost always put you on fish.

However, more adventurous and experienced fishermen can wade out on their own behind the island and access large bonefish flats.

DEEP SEA FISHING :

Unlike most destinations, you can enjoy excellent fishing for wahoo, dolphinfish (mahi mahi), tuna, mackerel and barracuda within a 10 minute boat ride from the dock. No need to spend hours going 30-50 miles out before starting to fish. This makes half-day trips an attractive option for those who don’t wish to spend a whole day at sea.

Bonuses can include glimpses of other sea life, such as pods of dolphin (the mammals) that swim with the boat, flying fish, Humpback, Beaked and Pilot Whales, sea turtles and a variety of sea birds. Whale sharks also have been spotted on occasion.

OTHER FISHING :

We also offer bottom fishing trips for snapper and grouper and catch and release shark fishing. Bottom fishing can be a great experience for novice fishermen since there is almost always a lot of action. The guide will either take you to a “snapper hole” on the Caicos Bank or out to the reef.

No matter which type of fishing you do, some say the boat ride itself is worth the trip.
